that's awesome. I wish i could have seen them play together. would be an honor indeed
Jorma is outstanding. He does stuff on the guitar that i don't think anyone else to this day has done. He was such a diamond in the rough.
I think i would have pissed my pants if i were on LsD during one of their shows and they just start The Ballad or or Other side of this life or anything for that matter.

What I don't like about Led Zeppelin is that they would take old blues songs, say they wrote the songs, and put the actual artists as co-writers. How is that fair? I was a big fan of them for a while too, but now it's just...meh.
They are extremely uncomfortable with the idea that I am a teenage girl in the body of a 60 year old career criminal who has already died 16 times...

Nobody's fault, but...

Yes - that's the thing that amazes me, as I learn more about blues music history. Is it just up to the musicians' own morals, or is there a law against it (but someone or an estate has to sue, to change it)?
No - I'm not going to boycott listening to Led Zep! But given their popularity years ago (and they still get alot of airplay), why the need to take credit for other's songs?
Definitely - This subject is just another reason to appreciate what Jorma is all about - when you see the names of the originators of songs that he does on the albums, and when he announces many of the songs with "Like to do a song by..." And I can only imagine what a conversation (if I could hold it) with him, about these names from the past, would contain!
It's good times now - I can see the light!

That is Led Zeppelin.....

Grand Funk Railroad did Locomotion from Little Eve (?)
The Sensational Alex Harvey did Tom Jones Delilah.....
I could make this list of who-did-someone-else-song
much much longer.....
THAT does not say any thing about quality.....
Not for the song not for the player.....
Any bass /guitar player did someone else song.
just for fun.....on stage or not on stage private......

And if you like REAL HEAVY stuff on guitar....
Then get some OLD Black Sabbath with Ozzy......
Paranoid.....Killing Yourself to live.....

Had to edit my post about Kelly Joe Phelps. Got the title wrong. D'oh!

Got turned on to him by a guy in Holland I was trading tapes with. Kelly Joe plays Philly regularly & I've seen him a few times. Funny thing is he was a jazz bassist beore he started fingerpicking blues.

Jorma is a GREAT guy. And will talk to you about almost anything (up to a point).
But if you wanna talk to someone about blues musicians and versions of songs, talk to Patrick Sweany, a blues artist from Ohio.

http://www.patricksweany.com/

He is also a great guy and an AMAZING performer. And seems to know every blues record ever made.

I have absolutely no problem with any musician giving someone else's song a try - Many songs need to be kept alive this way!
I realize some critics groan over certain group's covers, and some listeners are always in neeed of "something new". Do some groups think that less people will embrace their songs if they know that someone else originated it?
Led Zep rules heavy blues - cover songs or not!
Hot Tuna embarrassed themselves in covering "It's so Easy" (On Hoppkorv, my favorite studio album of theirs, no less)!
Not everything works, regardless of talent!
That's not the problem...
The problem I have is who is credited on the album. Or a website or interview that doesn't acknowledge the real origins. Or worse yet - in concert, they introduce the song as "This is one from our new album..."
And I did take note that on the site for Kelly Joe Phelps, credit was given to the right musicians for the songs he covers - and that instantly impressed me.
It's good times now - I can see the light!

The OLD Fleetwood Mac & Peter Green....

2 GREAT songs :
Albatros....for the guitar men.....
http://www.fretplay.com/tabs/f/fleetwoo ... -tab.shtml

And this one :

Need Your Love So Bad
Need someone’s hand to lead me through the night
I need someone’s arms to hold and squeeze me tight
Now, when the night begins, whoa, I’m at an end
Because I need your love so bad

I need some lips to feel next to mine
Need someone to stand up - to stand up and tell me when I’m lyin’
And when the lights are low - and it’s time to go
That’s when I need your love so bad

So why don’t you give it up, baby and bring it home to me
Or write it on a piece of paper, woman - so it can be read to me
Tell me that you love me - and stop drivin’ me mad
Whoa, because I - I need your love so bad

Need a soft voice - just to talk to me at night
Don’t want you to worry, baby
I know we can make everything alright
Listen to my plea, baby, come on bring it to me
’cause I need - your love so bad
Baby, I need, I need - woman, I need your love so bad

Some people are lucky enough to get paid to post their blathering for public viewing. They have to blather about something, or they won't get paid. Others, like us, blather on for free. He's entitled to his opinion, just like I'm entitled to not give a shit what he thinks. After all, for some people their taste is confined to their mouths.

Cheers,
Dave
