Is there a book which attempts to identify when it all went wrong for the first psychedelic era?

Clearly post-1966. Clearly pre-Altamont.

I think pre-1968.

Did White rabbit precede Somebody to love?

After Bathing sounds Pure. Volunteers desperate.

Hi King. I suggest you read "It Came From Inner Space" in "Storming Heaven" by Jay Stevens. My understanding is it started to go arse-up in San Francisco in mid-1967, and there's a slight delay before this is reflected in the music that was released by the Bay Area groups. By 1968, you begin to hear back-to-the-land themes in songs. I think JA's turning point was Crown Of Creation, which has a nice balance of positive and negative in it. It doesn't completely abandon peace and love, but Volunteers is "us-versus-them" Nixon era stuff.

Undemocratic, certainly. Right-wing, left-wing, what's the difference if half your street's been demolished by a guided missile? Neither the donkeys or the elephants seem to mind reading our mail and signing Pentagon death lists.

RELIX: When did you start to see a scene taking shape?
MARTY: There was a scene there, it just wasn't formed. As soon as everyone started doing something there were all these people suddenly, like light people, rock people, managers, and suddenly they were a scene. I remember it was really pretty and beautiful for a year or two and then Time magazine came out and they were interviewing me. I told the guy, "It's great that you're publicizing this beautiful-feeling scene out here," and he looked me right in the eye and said, "Fastest way to kill it."
