Let's see... in the last few months I bought The Byrds: "Younger than Yesterday"; Jefferson Starship: "Blows Against the Empire" (with lyric sheet! My original lyric sheet was long gone). 13th Floor Elevators:"The Psychedelic Sounds of the Thirteenth Floor Elevators"and "Easter Everywhere" (I just discovered this band-very cool, especially "Slip Inside This House"); Queensryche "Operation Mindcrime" (what a GREAT album-had it on vinyland almost wore it out, now I have it on CD too!); Jorma Kaukonen: "River of Time" xlnt album!; Jack Casady: "Dream Factor" another xlnt album!!! That's all Folks! (for now)

"Younger Than Yesterday" is my favourite Byrds album, though I'm tempted to skip "Mind Gardens" if I'm not in the mood.

It's my favorite Byrds album, too, Susan. But I like the single version of "Why" better than the album version. It has more of the "raga-rock" guitar in it. If you don't already know this, the single version is on the aptly named "The Singles 1965-1967". I have it on vinyl. I'm pretty sure it's also on CD

Of the three versions of "Why" available, the single version, with its raw solos and its quick tempo (this time Hillman sounds like he's on speed), is by far the best. The RCA version, available on Never Before, is slower, without the intricate bass work of the single version, but has some great pseudo-sitar solos as well. The band would later record a third version, which appeared on Younger Than Yesterday. That version is also uptempo, but the solos are subdued and the bass work halting at times.

I didn't know there are 3 versions of "Why". I'll have to try to hunt the "middle" version down. Thanks for the info!

A new album i found really good is the first album byt "The Heavy" called "The house that dirt built" released in 2010. i reccomend giving that a listen.

I'm happy I found this! Always loved his folksy, jazzy, world inspired psychadelia a lot.
