That plane looks like a flying white whale with bleeding open wound below the lower jaw and seriously injured head and snout .
I'm gonna report you to the Sea Shepherds.
You could make the children cry with that thing,you know.

The problem is of course that American Design is a contradictio in terminis.
JA was never strong in style and design. All those ugly album covers. And those T-shirts they want you to buy.

It is not just the Design.America itself is on the path to turn into an almost unsustainable contradiction.It is not that I am happy about it.

You read my mind, JB. I was going to suggest a Boeing SST trailing a psychedelic cloud of pollution, flying over a landscape of exploding ears.

JA was nothing like a supersonic airplane.It was more like the old,colourful, acid- dropping, parts-losing,noisy,wobbling triplane from the 'Baxter's' sleeve.A surreal, old type airplane that carry the load of new sound and meaning and whose velocity and directions are not measurable by physical means . That's the contradiction I like and asociate with JA.

Ron Cobb's creaky wooden house with wings is almost perfect. I was thinking of the later somewhat bombastic sound of the Airplane, which I'm less wild about.

I remember,a couple of years ago you wrote that if someone asked you how JA sounded, you would play ,,She Has Funny Cars'' to them .That sentence immediately opened the scene to me.I didn't reply. It is the sound and It was said perfectly.

Up like a rocket, and down like a stick? But a large supersonic aircraft just isn't junkshop-baroque enough represent West Coast psychedelic music, no matter how ear-splittingly loud it got. If the Concorde had been designed by Rowland "Fred" Emett, perhaps, but that's difficult to imagine.
