Yeah im always drawn to the bass in music too.Im not really at all technical, i just play what ive learned, but Geddys sound is from his plucking force. He uses effects occasionally, but not alot.Since the 1990s hes been using a 1972 Fender Jazz though, and i know he has some modifications on it that are similar to his Rickenbacker 4001J he used in the 1970s, but differant.During most of the '80s he played Wal and Steinberger basses, which didnt have the piercing sound he had with Rickenbacker or Fender, a bit more mellow, more normal and generated, but still complex. His playing has had the least effects and synths as much as Alex and Neil over the years, so i can honestly say its the way he plucks the strings.

I used to have a Rickenbacker, a 4001V63CS. The CS is for Chris Squire, it was his signature model. It was a wonderful axe, but I was afraid to take it out on gigs (it was one of 1,000 made), and the value kept increasing, so I sold it when I needed the money. It sounded great but was not a relatively versatile instrument. Jazz basses are very versatile; and so is my Alembic Epic, because of the incredible electronics. You can use those for many different styles of music.

Hey, Zeke - you're an "old timer" here, again! Did you ever make that JA movie?

Hi there Jimmie! Never got to do anything related to cinema :) It was like a childish dream but it'd be cool if I did. I went to college and studied economics/law instead ...

That's time better spent, but I just wonder how awesome that movie could have been! I still think we could have pulled off the claymation thing. Each member here could construct a different band member from Play-Dough, send it to you, you pose them, change the expressions a little, and snap a bunch of pictures - then add the soundtrack from your collection... Done!

I don't really have any idea how this came up, but it sounds totally awesome.

Really sucks that I have no artistic talent whatsoever.
