Oh, I know.... A day for history to remember, no matter which side you're on.

It's very refreshing to have some faith in my country again. It's been a while. And I'm sure that aside from so many others rejoicing, 32 million Americans who are gonna be covered are gonna have a pretty great day too. :)

But I won't be blue always

Yes a great day indeed, PF! Seeing your response made my day, compared to some of the other nauseating stuff I've been seeing elsewhere.

Nearly as important and historic, according to our fearless local press, is the fact that the Vice President used the F-word during the proceedings.

Yes, American Politics! Yuck! I'm hoping the young people will eventually bring some sanity back to it. Probably won't be around any longer to see it. I myself, don't like politics, never did, even before it got this bad. Tried it once. So I am pigeonholed as one who has trouble getting along with people, when, in fact, it is just stupidity I can't get along with. Plus I'd rather be mowing the lawn, or anything else.

I hate the stupid jargon you're expected to speak in public, even if you just work for the local council. Use lots of impressive-sounding words, make the bad things sound good, and keep it vague so the shit doesn't stick. It used to be funny, but not any more.

Right,Susan.

All hypocritical, selfish,well- oiled crooks looking after their own interests, politicians are.Politics is a form of prostitution on a higher level but in the most loathly manner.

Don't exaggerate. Politics may not be the most lofty activity, we have to do with it. There is no good alternative to it in dealing with our interests and differences.

A tragedy that someone has to do it (politics). Good thing there's a lot of corruption, or else we'd have to rely on our elected officials to run the country 8)

If we take politics as the art of the possible, then every single possibility is in option considering the well known weaknesses and inventiveness of human kind .It has been a well known fact through the history.
I've never said there was a better alternative to politics in dealing with our social and other interests(so far).
My dominant assotiation of a politician is with a stink.
Like I said-a non scrupled, lying, fine haired sons of a bitches hungry for the power and money. With a rare exeptions,of course.

What about quiet disobedience?

Then there's futile public guestures like Earth Hour. I detest the way the humble light bulb has been demonised. What we need is a Stop Buying New Stuff Day.

God... lots of conversation I missed, wish I could catch up. I won't lie though, I did originally avoid the return of this discussion because like babson, I'd rather be mowing a lawn than discussing politics, because I'm just so not a political person. I do my help where help is needed, but I'm fifteen and my parents are on my side, so I really can't do anything yet.

I will say that I do my fare share to take care of the planet though! I give a tree an occasional hug, don't litter and occasionally pick up others littering, and when I play bass or guitar, usually I'll play unplugged to save on electricity. If only that would save us all from melting a little bit sooner...

P.S. - I love Susan's new holiday!

Huh!'Shut up and be obedient'-he says.

We had been fiercely fighting in the streets for ten years before we set the parliament house on fire and finaly deposed the son of a bitch.
So don't you give me no advices on a political resistance, not from your safe, comfortable place and position.I have plenty of my own experiences in that matter(not to mention the other shit I was driven into). The ''Butcher of the Balkans'' gave me the most memorable ride through the 90's.

Isn't it true though that political resistance is whatever you want it to be? At the soul of it, it's all just fighting for what you believe in. I do that by volunteering and going to marches, and occasionally canvassing, or letter-writing, but I accept that people do it very different ways. Some are bolder than others, but it doesn't mean that those others aren't trying.

Redrabid is completely right though. To achieve change, you do need to participate, because unfortunately we can't count on the powers that be to make everything better. Real political action is relatively dis-valued in our current society, which is a shame. The result is more people doing what they think is right for us, and not ever knowing what we really want.

My, I hope that was coherent...
