Thanks OKD! If there's a policeman in the picture, it might be my grandfather.The trams had gone by the time I was born, but there was still a short section of rail in the street outside our house for many years.

Here's an interesting Haight Street photo, dated 1967.
An odd mix of the freedom-oriented idealization associated with the time, and what at least I perceive as the reality of it, although it isn't like I would know, not having been there. Nonetheless, even if my interpretation is incorrect, it is still an interesting photo.

These are the types in threadbare moddy clobber that inhabit Robert Crumb's sketchbooks of San Francisco.

Yep, runaway youth in the 14 to 17 age range was through the roof back then. That's what all those peace signs and that hippie music caused. Very powerful stuff. Lucky for us we weren't wielding that power and it just happened all on it's own.

Yes, they wanted to be part of our counterculture so much they played music for us that was OUTASITE! 
Was just reading on the cover of my new CD Worst of how JA played the east coast for the fist time in '67 at a small coffee house, as was the style at that time. JA totally blue away the Boston/Cambridge crowd. They had never experienced anything like it 
The counterculture started with a lot of little steps over several years until a spark ignited it around '67. That attracted these Godlike musicians Who believe it or not, wanted to be part of that culture as much as we all did.
