I just finished listening to Happy Trails all the way through. What a fabulous album.

A couple weeks ago, I listened to "Shine your love light" by the greatful dead on the woodstock 40th dvd. That song was bouncing around in my head for a week. Everytime time it bounced I had sooo much energy. Lately it has been Wooden Ships from the airplane woodstock CD. Thank you for Wooden Ships. "It's no secret" has bounced in my head a lot over the many years.

Recently I paged through a new edition of a Rock Encyclopedia and I read what was written about psychedelic music. The San Francisco Sound was mentioned of course. And surprise,surprise! Lots of praise for QSM. But a much bigger surprise: No mention at all of Jefferson Airplane, not even in the discography: No Pillow, no Baxter's. So, the band most likely to be forgotten in the long run might be Jefferson Airplane. We all know how much JA is hated by critics.

No Pillow?!?! No Baxters?!?!? Now THAT is sad. Just sad.

It's true that JA is hated almost universally by critics, but it will stay alive through vaguely connected groups of fans. When I visited 2400 Fulton Street a few weeks ago, I met some big, tough-looking guys who turned out to be from New Jersey-- they loved JA.

Things aren't always what they seem.

Critics have their heads up their backsides, and you never know about the long run. They're not thought highly of because they don't have much influence, and as someone said earlier, they don't have influence because their sound is too difficult to copy. That's no reflection on the quality of their music.

Suspecting that most of you hate disco, I may discredit myself completely, but all day, much to my pleasure, I am humming "Don't Leave Me This Way" and "Turn The Beat Around". Two great disco classics. Disco was made for the dancefloor of course and taken out of that context most of it looses its charm. Most albums are lousy because of that. But there were a lot of singles that had very seductive melodies and great vocals. And some earth shaking bass guitar. Those songs made a great soundtrack for an age of mindless dancing, snorting and fucking.

I love a bit of Disco (as you say, in the right place). It's got groove, vibe and rhythm. What I can't stand is over blown R&B.
