Weirdest Jefferson Airplane Song

Postby LatherPCL on Mon Jan 26, 2009 1:20 am

What do you think is the weirdest, most far out song Jefferson Airplane ever recorded? I would think it would have to be "The Saga Of Sydney Spacepig". A lot of fooling around meant to get a laugh, but that song has got to be the weirdest thing they ever recorded.

Ok. You win there. I have the song "Would You Like A Snack" and after thinking about it, the lyrics to "Would You Like A Snack" beat out the pig snorting of "The Saga Of Sydney Spacepig" as being the weirdest.

Now that's an interesting question. The most annoying Jefferson Airplane song? Don't misunderstand me, I think "Rejoyce" is brilliant, but once when I was depressed some of the lyrics got stuck in my head, and went round in a loop for days on end. I now find the second side of 'Baxters" difficult to listen to. This is more of an unfortunate accident than anything else.

Weirdest? Tied between "Saga of Sydney Spacepig" and "Would You Like a Snack?" (even though I don't know if the latter is even considered an Airplane song, because it was only done by Grace and Frank Zappa)

Most annoying? I don't really know, I LOVE Lather, but that annoy baby-ish sounding noise towards the end of the song kind of prevents me from fully enjoying the song. I love listening to it, but when the end comes on I just change the song, pretty much. Other than that, none of them really annoy me.

"White Rabbit" climaxes limply right at the end, and I feel slightly embarrassed when I hear it. No, "limply" isn't the right word. "Empty thumping?"

I think the weirdest JA song is "Never argue with a German if you're tired of European song"
Would you like a snack? is a great song, I love it that's weird too..."The Saga of Sydney Spacepig" hmmm...that's a kind of fun thing I can't think of that as a "song".
"A small package of value will come to you, shortly" is weird too..

"The House at Pooneils Corner" annoying me sometimes.. :|

RiBump Ba Bap Dum Dum is a pretty weird piece of abstract jazz-rock. At one point it was going to be a secret track at the end of Crown of Creation. It's got a cool drum and cowbell part but the lyrics are just jazz scatting and made up mouth noises and it ends with pig sound effects.

Would You Like a Snack in a re-recorded version not featuring Grace Slick was used in Zappa's film 200 Motels.

I like the exprimental tracks on Bark but would defenitley not want every Airplane track to sound like them. Thunk is alot like the stuff on the Beach Boys' rush recorded Smiley Smile album. Very odd. The mellotron part on Never Argue with a German I always thought sounded very eerie.

It has a title and it's on the record.

Think I am kicked off. Every time I try to post I get

You cannot make another post so soon after your last.

Same thing if I try to send a private message to Adam Walker

I got a date of Aug, 2011 on my last post. I deleted it, but still get the above message when I try to post. Sent an email to info@jeffersonairplane.com but no response.

I guess I am degraded to readonly, and editing my own post. Cannot do a quote either. They should do this to people that haven't been drafted....
