What about Grace Slick ?

Your opinion about this idiotic list, please.
http://www.rollingstone.com/news/covers ... 2/page/103
What criteria the creators used to make this list?
Surely, Grace Slick should be on it.

RIDICULOUSNESS!!! Seriously GS should be on there.....she may not be the best vocalist by the very definition of the word - but the raw power of her voice shredded women's roles in music and paved the way for women in rock!!! She belongs right up there w/ Janis. This list pisses me off! I don't see how Mariah Carey can get on this list just for screaming, or damn Mary J. Blige, but not GRACE??? BLASPHEMY!

Aretha Franklin? #1? i don't get it....

she may not be the best vocalist by the very definition of the word but the overall impression of her beats them all.She was the trailblazer for female rockers and she wrote the manual. She he was the incarnation of the sixties and of all what the sixties represented.A provocateur with deep insight.A powerful and mesmerizing woman when she was in her prime.
And she still is.

I don't think Grace's singing is cliched enough to qualify for a Rolling Stone All-Time Greatest List! This kind of magazine-filling rubbish is for people without ears of their own.

I think it's for people without ears in general.

At least she's in some folks' Top 100. Here's Alex Grey's portrait of Albert Hofmann...

...and here's a detail from the painting. I'm certain that's Grace at the bottom right, though it's not a close likeness.

I say we come up with our OWN lists! List your top 10 greatest singers of all time. You should consider not only vocal ability, but impact in society as well. Here's my list:

1. Patsy Cline
2. Grace Slick
3. Janis joplin
4. Elvis
5. Jimi Hendrix
6. John Lennon
7. Bob Dylan
8. Jim Morrison
9. Michael Jackson
10. Robert Plant

Yes, I am gender biased - I'm a sucker for women that kick ass. I know - it's blasphemy to some of you that GS is (gasp) #2, but I have to say Patsy Cline was the original rebel. You wouldn't guess it by listening to her sweeping love songs, but if you research her a bit you'll find she was a hardass who wouldn't take crap from anybody! I love it! Just too bad I didn't exist in her time....

So that's my top 10 - whats yours?

I'll get back to that.
With you standing here I could tell the world what it means to love
To go on from here I can't use words, they don't say enough

I won't put any numbers down because it's not a list, right, but apart from Grace and Marty these come to mind; Robert Wyatt, Judy Durham, Roger McGuinn, the Beach Boys, and the Shangri-Las.

Guys, this is a magazine that misspells Stevie Nicks as "stevie knicks", like she's some kind of basketball team. Don't take them seriously.
They can't be expected to know better.

My top 5?

1. Amanda Palmer. Because she is beautiful and amazing.
2. Jim Morrison. Blame it on "The Crystal Ship". It's just so pretty.
3. The lovely miss Grace Slick. There are no words.
4. Janis Joplin. Because there is no one quite like her.
5. Kurt Cobain, for being his growly, grungy self.
Not shy of a spark,
A knife twists at the thought that I should fall short of the mark,
Frightened by the bite though its no harsher than the bark,
Middle of adventure, such a perfect place to start

She's conspicuously absent from the list, its that simple.

I think the question is...What defines greatness??
Vocal talent, range, influence, popularity??
