..own any of the albums on vinyl?

I have Surrealistic Pillow (possibly a '69 release, though), Bark w/ the JA bag and lyric butcher sheet, Long John Silver, and Flight Log w/ the 12 page booklet. On my LJS album, it has a white label that was stuck on that has the LP number (FTR-1001), the album title (LJS), band name (J.A.), track listing and length for each side, the date "AUG 10 1972" stamped with blue ink, and a note that says "Promotional album - not for sale". And a handwritten joke "Bill eats Jill!", and I have no idea what that was about lol.

I didn't pay much for them. I paid $3 for FL, $5 for Bark, and $4 for SP and LJS at a CD and Record show in June. I'm glad I own them. What about you guys?

Got Pillow, Crown, Volunteers, Bark and LJS on LP. Rest are CD or cassette. Regarding Crown, if one of you has the complete original issue, could you tell me what the heck the "Brumus sheet" was? It's missing on mine. Lyrics, perhaps?

Chasin-Destiny: I probably will be buried with my records lol. I'm not giving them up for anything. Not even if Grace or anyone from the band came to me house personally and asked to buy them lol.

Thanks for solving the mystery, CD. Brumus is mentioned on "Blows", too. Can you find a similar picture of the first US issue of "Pillow'? I'm not sure what it looked like. Mine's an Australian copy, with a slightly different front cover, and biographical notes on the back. Typical cheap Aussie job.

Brumus was the JFK family dog...

Hence the lyric:

"...Though your Master's head's blown off

You got to roll with it..."

I myself used to own vinyl of almost ALL of the JA LPs, until an unscrupulous ex-room-mate ripped me off and heisted them... :x

My all-time favorite was the LONG JOHN SILVER stash-box package.

"PERFECT DREAM Natural Tobacco" with the photo of all that 1972-era bud... LOVED IT!!!

I was already a JA lover when, tripping on LSD, I visited a record store (back in the late 1980s when there still WERE "record stores") and seeing this incredible JA album which I had never known about, until then...

I remember seeing a vintage-era NATIONAL LAMPOON magazine from 1972 with an advert for the newly-released LP which had a photo of the famous actor Rip Torn dressed up as "Long John Silver" himself and some silly GRUNT Records-copy text to accompany it.

Still one of my ALL-TIME favorite JA records EVER...

If only I could afford to send off for the Japanese import CD that is still out there WITH the miniature stash-box...

:D

Don, I've got the Rip Torn ad. I'll post it when I have time to scan it. Unfortunately the stash box won't fit in the scanner, but I can post the green stuff and the box art if you like.

Gnarly. I recently bought Red Octopus for $1 at a yard sale lol. I have Grace Slick & The Great Society's Collector's Item on CD, but it'd be nice to have the vinyl. Once I get more cash I'm gonna have to ask my mom to get me some vinyls off of Amazon. I'm only 15 and I know more about Jefferson Airplane than my grandparents do lol. I can't go a day without J.A.

I'm 16, going on 17. And it's the same for me, as well. :) I can't have a day where I don't listen to them.
I want more vinyl, as well. But I'll have to get it on eBay or something.

Here's the Rip Torn "Long John Silver" advert from the "Remember Those Fabulous Sixties?" issue of National Lampoon, October 1972.

I was looking for a CD of "Takes Off" at a big record shop near here, but couldn't find anything at all by JA in the "Rock" section. It turned out they did have several of their albums, but they were hidden in the "Nostalgia" section next to Vera Lynn! Sad, isn't it?

Well, I used to own ALL of them, of course.

That's what we listened to back then. We didn't have CDs, ya know.

The only LPS I can say for sure that I still have are Takes Off and BiPLH.

I have after bathing at baxters. I found it in a local consignment shop for 1 dollar, the cover on it is kind if beat up a bit but the record is in perfect condition. This is one of my favorite Airplane albums so im quite glad i found it!
