A Jefferson Airplane reunion?

Thoughts and memories from longtime Jefferson Airplane Manager Bill Thompson

A Jefferson Airplane reunion?

Postby Clym on Thu Dec 20, 2007 10:29 pm

Hi Bill

Is there any chance that Marty, Grace, Paul, Jack and Jorma will reunite for a reunion concert/tour/festival/anything?

I've never seen the Airplane live (I'm too young) so I'd give anything to go see them, even if it means travelling continents.

I haven't heard of any recent Airplane news. Any links that explain the name thing you mentioned CD?

As a long-time fan and aficionado of all things JEFFERSON and TUNA...

... I find these recent developments disturbing... If, perhaps, not so surprising...

Seems to me like Paul Kantner (whom I GREATLY admire) is trying to "Take The Money And Run"...

... Now in bed with corporate mega-giants like Microsoft!?!?!?!

Reminds me of a year or two ago when I began hearing "Volunteers" on an investment-banking or some-such capitalistic commercial advertisement.

It cheapens and degrades the music's original freedom and glory.

I will reserve judgment until I hear the REAL truth from all considered...

Whether or not we may EVER know the REAL truth behind such nonsense.

In the meantime, it SEEMS like PK is shilling his musical and cultural integrity for a few million $...

... Doesn't seem right.

So yeah... FUCK it.

Until we masses of "unenlightened" fans know the "real deal":

I will just listen to my pre-1977 albums and live bootlegs and let the real legacy of GREATNESS live on, if only in my own stoned-head head.

FUCK CORPORATE SELL-OUTS!!!

Yeah, it is disheartening news.

Paul shouldn't expliot the Jefferson Airplane name for $$$. Period. I don't really care what any contract says.

Still, I can't sympathize with suing over something like that. It just makes it worse for all involved.

It is a big mess, and things all around us are probably going to get messier, so...

I'm with you DonRico; Slip on some headphones, put on your favorite album, and forget about all the shit.

No matter what Paul, Grace, or anyone else does now, it can not change who and what they were, and that's what should be focused on.

Just noticed this thread. This lawsuit was resolved amicably. Paul Kantner agreed to pay a small license fee to Bill Thompson and Grace Slick and he'll get to keep using the name Jefferson Starship.

To paraphrase Grace in a not-very-old interview on youtube, rock n' roll is commerce. If they're able to get together and play and willing to rehearse sufficiently, they could do a tour and make lots of money and lots of happy fans, so why not? I didn't think Cream would ever do it, but they did it and did it beautifully. The DVD of RAH is great if you have good home audio to are able to really listen to it. Unfortunately, that's not a given for the viewer, surprisingly enough. I cranked up the Bose, bought all the disks and loved it.

It WOULD be nice if all of the "classic"- era JA members (sadly minus Spencer and Skip) COULD actually settle whatever differences could even possibly exist after so many years and combine their brilliant components one more time for realization of the glory that never will die ever.

... Someone in GRATEFUL DEAD passed on and THOSE guys kept playin' in the band, knowhatI'msayin'" ???

JA emerged with the beginning of the most wonderful decade of 20th century ,just when they were meant to be.They vanished along with the end of that era.Let them stay there in the past where they belong, forever young and wonderful.

Selling music lyrics to commercial was the reason Jim Morrison left the Doors.

Everytime I hear some commercial with our music in it, I shudder and my stomach knots up with nausea.

It's best to have the sense to walk away from something on a high note. Be it the old days or many aspects of life. Grace did say over 20 years ago no more live music for her. Respect it.
