I have a long history of personally promoting Airplane as so unique and special that you could not get "over the top" of them musically. I went back recently to a DVD I have in my collection that was issued by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. All those great songs were just as good now as ever.
Here's the tie in to the Bill Thompson interview referenced here...and specifically to Airplane songs in movies and used with other visual media...In the final episode of "Friends" the exit music to this sitcom was Embryonic Journey. Bill's managerial strength's and the strength of that great San Francisco music...most exemplified by Airplane...continues to show up in media 40 years on. Wow!! (and you still can't get "over the top" of the Airplane's music)
