Can you help me identify a song?

Postby degrimstead on Sat Aug 12, 2006 9:19 pm

This has been driving me nuts for SO long ... please help!

During the finale of the TV series "Friends," an instrumental song is played at the very end as they pan around the apartment. It is SO FAMILIAR to me, from many years past, and every time I watch a rerun of this show it bugs me more!

My vague memory is that it's the last song on one side of an album from the 60's, by either Jefferson Airplane or Big Brother & the Holding Company. Does anybody know what I'm talking about?? Unfortunately I don't own the album, plus being an instrumental I can't look up the song by lyrics. Of course I have NO clue what the title is.

THANK YOU if you can help end my misery!

Yep! That was Embryonic Journey (on the Surrealistic Pillow album) that they played.

"Friends" song

Postby degrimstead on Sun Aug 13, 2006 5:00 am

Oh my God, you are the answer to my prayers !!! BLESS YOU - you have no idea how wonderful it is to have this question answered.

Did you see the show and recognize the song right off the bat? If so - good for you! Much better memory than me, obviously.

Well THANK YOU so much, virgo80 ... you've made my whole day/weekend/week/month/YEAR!

What freaked me out was that I was sitting in a motel about 5 miles from Jorma's place restringing my guitars preparing for class there that weekend. I was had the last episode of Friends on the TV as I worked. To have that song close out that show nearly 40 years after it was written brought tears to my eyes.

Cheers,
Dave

"Embryonic Journey"

Well, Indian Summer, I'm not quite sure why you're assuming I HAVEN'T heard all of Jefferson Airplane's music ... I don't know how old you are but I listened to "Surrealistic Pillow" over & over again on my portable phonograph, along with J.A.'s other music and that of Big Brother & the Holding Company, The Sons of Champlain and lots of other great local rock bands in the 60's as I was growing up, so I am more than familiar with it; it formed a very basic part of my life. I grew up in Mill Valley, just north of San Francisco, so the 60's music scene was a big deal for me. I'm so happy about that ... wouldn't have it any other way. And I'm really glad to see how many other fans there are out there!

Yeah, me too.....I'm sorry that I had the idea that you didn't knew the band...
It's the same thing as that I assume that people don't know I'm brilliant.

'Surrealistic Pillow' is a great record and it was a great introduction for me.
Hearing a song about White Rabbit's is very appealing when you realize that you've become one.

I too went nuts when I heard it. I'd been getting more and more irritated by Friends, but thought I should watch the last one. Ended up buying the series for my neice just so I could get her to hear a bit of JA.
