I remember in 89 when all of the original members reunited for a tour and recording of a new album, I saw this half hour speical on VH-1 discussing their history and current work they showed some old footage of Marty Balin dated 1968, he was probably talking about the whole hippie movement and the interviewer probably asks about rivals between old and young generation and Balin says we;re the ones that will half to take over.

Sorry if this isn't enough info but this was probably only a small portion of waht might of been an old documentry.

perhaps someone here knows where this piece came from.

I WISH those baby-boomer-generation millions really HAD done something to change the status quo and illuminate and elevate the whole human race a bit, instead of just lapsing into selfish 1970's disco "Me Generation" apathetic fools, snorting up cocaine and allowing Reagan and Thatcher to be in control of the so-called "free" world...

Now, as a result, we have global-meltdown and Cheney-Bush in the White House and WWIII knocking on our door.

Can you say "KA-BOOOOM!!!"

THANKS A LOT, all of you once-brilliant, now-stagnating "change-the-world" yuppie-hippie types!!!

NOW we are all REALLY PHUCKED!!!

Alot of those so called 'hippies', attending Woodstock, Monterey and the Isle Of Wight, were just faking it.
They profiled themselves as being a hippy, just for fun or because of the fact that friends said it was cool.
Anyway, they never really adopted the hippie ideology and just a few years later they crawled back in right wing society.
Only a few stood behind their principles and idealism, even til this day.
I know I didn't experience the hippie lifestyle, but I consider myself to be a hippy and I'm proud of it.
People like Bush, Thatcher are evil as far as I'm concerned.
You're right about that...
I also agree with DonRico that the lack of idealism gave them room to do their policies and gave them the possibility to take over the torch.

Socialism is still around, but hard to find

I hear ya loud & clear, Indian Summer...

I was born in 1967 ... Too late to be a 1st-generation "hippie", but still young enough to get hand-me-down LP records of the GOOD STUFF from coll older aunts and uncles...

I got turned on to JA, Jimi, Janis, Beatles and Stones from a very young age...

I went through my own generation's "counter-culture" in the 1980's with punk-rock hardcore and thrash...

BUTTHOLE SURFERS, DEAD KENNEDYS, MILLIONS of DEAD COPS...
Still LOVE that stuff...

But NOTHING else can really compare to the trail-blazing pioneers of the 1960's...

So yeah:

I was born in 1967... Too late for all of the good stuff...

For me, the so-called "counter-culture" was the anti-war, anti-Reagan/ anti-Thatcher, "No Nukes" 1980's...

My growing-up soundtrack was hard-core punk stuff like THE CLASH, DEAD KENNEDYS, BUTTHOLE SURFERS, CRASS, CONFLICT and MILLION of DEAD COPS...
Among numerous other contemporaneous greats...

But NOTHING compares to the first-generation royalty as exemplified by JIMI HENDRIX, BEATLES, JEFFERSON AIRPLANE and garage-punk greats such as CHOCOLATE WATCH BAND and THE SEEDS...

Just the BEST of the best of the best if you ask me...
