Jefferson Family Reunion

Postby Guest on Sun Jan 29, 2006 7:43 pm

im am attending this "reunion" concert and i am not quite positive what to expect. Not that i don't like or prefer it this way but i know that when they hit Detroit at the Majestic Theatre, they won't be with
Darby Gould who, i guess, plays kick ass lead guitar with them.
The list of musicians attending doesn't list anybody who would be billed as a lead guitar player.
is kantner gonna do it.......??

i really like darby gould alot as i have downloaded some stuff off of the starship website. i was blown away by the energy in the band. Im kinda sad that he's not gonna be there........

has anyone seen them recently in concert??

The wonder years...

Postby jimmie ray on Mon Jan 30, 2006 10:25 am

They are playing at a theater next month that is close to me, and have Marty Balin also listed to be there. Is he on and off with them alot?
Would Country Joe be performing with them, or with his own band?
Setlists that I've seen in the past showed them doing a range of songs, from early JA to Starship pop - are they continuing to do this?
It's good times now - I can see the light!

The tour hasn’t officially started yet, so I don’t know exactly what Country Joe is going to do. The first show (which I’m going to) is in a couple of weeks. I would GUESS that Joe will do some stuff by himself and maybe a little with the band. We’ll see.

Yes, Marty has issues at home to take care of and is very on-and-off as far as touring with the band goes.

Yes, they do a WIDE mix of Airplane and Starship stuff. On the European leg they added a (Casady-less) Pooneil. Last year they inserted (the Dead’s) Dark Star in the middle of The Other Side of This Life. Recently they’ve gone into the catalog to do Blues From An Airplane, DCBA-25 and even some Great Society stuff (Darkly Smiling and Sally Go ‘Round The Roses). This year they’re promising to add some Weavers and some Dylan.

Should be very interesting and a lot of fun.

No Marty, even though he's listed in the ads. Odd how they can carry 3 female vocalists & Freiberg, who also now only sings, but have no bassist in the band. I'll pass & catch the Donald Fagen (of Steely Dan) Band instead.

How can this be?

Postby jimmie ray on Tue Jan 31, 2006 11:29 am

Are you kidding - no bass player at all?
And with Marty being a "maybe", it's hard to get too excited over this "reunion"!
Unless there is a very magical cohesion between these various musicians, that someone can attest to?

Here and there...

No chance on that - Jorma and Jack have their own touring schedule, and will be playing elsewhere (Colorado, Hawaii, etc.) on many of the same nights.
