Problems with English in We Can Be Together :)

Postby Mace Soplick on Fri Jan 20, 2006 5:34 pm

Hi! I'm Polish, and I speak English, but not extra-super-wonderful-great ;). So I've got a question to you:
In "We Can Be Together" there's a verse like that: "We steal cheat lie forge fred hide and deal". What does it mean: fred?!?!?! Can you help me, please? :)

In order to survive we steal cheat lie forge fred hide and deal

I would give it a try :

If you like to survive you have sometimes to do
allmost anything.....against anybody......
In the 60s maybe hard to do....
Now 2006?......i think you know the answer....

Survive is not only staying alive.....
If you like to be some one important....
Say...an important musician....
The more you have to do....

Scott McKenzie - San Francisco

There's a whole generation with a new explanation
People in motion people in motion

I think that's something in the same direction.
That song is 'very soft' compared to JA songs.....

The secret is:

In the song, the word "fuck" is used.

"Fred" is a form of censorship on the VOLUNTEERS lyric sheet. The band had enough trouble with the record company RCA allowing them to use the pejorative four-letter obscenity in the actual song... There was NO WAY that RCA would let them print the word on the lyric sheet.

So substitute "fuck" for "fred" and there you have it.

UP AGAINST THE WALL, FRED!!!
UP AGAINST THE WALL, MOTHERFUCKERS!!!

You know that was actually written by John Phillips (Mamas and Papas), right?

Mace,
I forgot to mention two things.
1. Czesz and wytamy!
(I apologize if my spelling is wrong. It has been a LONG time.
2. Scott McKenzie and John Phillips were in a folk group together called the Journeymen. I will assume that John's daughter is named after Scott.

Mother or "donor"?

Postby jimmie ray on Thu Feb 02, 2006 1:37 pm

Absolutely - but the current agendas of same-sex couples have a long way to go, before that step can be legislated. But these are "groundbreaking" times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's good times now - I can see the light!
