Peter Kaukonen

Postby Dray on Mon Aug 08, 2005 6:49 pm

I was reading over on Peter Kaukonen's website about a new musical project that he is involved in, yet when he had called other musicians for their support, his calls went unanswered. Therefore he is recording the whole project alone. I also do not see any links from any Airplane/member's related sites directing one to Peter's website. Nor do I see mention of him on any of those sites. It is almost as though he's been bannished by all who knew him. What gives? Does anyone know? Take care......

All I know about Peter is that he was on "Blows Against The Empire", and he had a Grunt LP called "Black Kangaroo", which included "Up And Down", which JA recorded.

Other than that, Jorma's brother is a mystery.

Peter played with Jefferson Starship in August. I saw him at BB's. Quite a witty guy.

Peter Kaukonen's Black Kangaroo is being released shortly on CD for the first time with his blessing. I understand it will also contain some live bonus tracks. I recommend it. More basic and blues influenced than JA with some similarities to Jorma's electric material. Definitely one of the better Grunt releases.

Is he a direct brother of Jorma?

Peter K played on the 89 Airplane reunion album & tour, and did a tour with electric Hot Tuna after the Airplane tour ended. His editorials on his website are quite...opinionated.

Forgot that Peter K, billed as Peter Kangaroo, played bass on the first JS tour in 1974. Quite a good player.
