Odetta, One Of Grace Slick's Influences

Not long after reading Grace Slick's auto-biography, "Somebody To Love? A Rock And Roll Memoir", I heard that Odetta, a folk singer that Grace mentions as being one of her influences, passed away. Has anyone ever heard of this singer and what does Odetta sound like? I might like to collect Odetta's music or at least purchase a greatest hits collection.

Is that the same Odetta ? ... I realy can't remember to read that in her book...

That is the same one. I clicked on your links, but due to my still using dial-up, it was choppy and slow. I will check it out again at the library. I remember Grace recounting a story about her slipping backstage at an Odetta concert to meet Odetta in her dressing room and saying that Odetta was a major influence. I find it kind of ironic that not more than a week after finnishing reading Grace's auto-biography that Odetta passes away. I have to check Odetta's music out. Maybe Odetta has a greatest hits collection. I'll search Amazon.com.

Oh, and one more thing about Odetta. I think Stephen King may be a fan of Odetta's music as well. In his "Dark Tower" series there is a character named Odetta.

I have read all of Stephen King's books except "The Diary Of A Red Sox Fan", "Colorado Kid" and his newest short story collection. I am just finishing up reading "Duma Key"(100 more pages to go). It could be just a coincidence that Stephen King named that "Dark Tower" character Odetta, but he could be a fan of the folk singer, Odetta like Grace Slick is.

I read about an American singer in this forum...she sang in the late 50s and made a big influence on Grace. I can't remember her name.. I saw her on YouTube and she must have been an idol for Grace because she sang exactly like Grace did.
Could somebody help me how that singer called?
