Pretty as You Feel Question

Postby JoeD80 on Thu Jul 17, 2008 1:37 pm

Question: A long time ago there was a reissue of the album Bark where Joey says about Pretty as You Feel that they were jamming early in the morning (Jorma, Jack, and Joey) and that Carlos Santana and Michael Shrive stopped by to jam with them. In the quote, he seems to imply that Santana and Shrieve are on that track...BUT, they are not credited on that track at all, and I have never seen any source anywhere else to say that they were. Did he just mean that they happened to be in the studio at the same time? (I don't think this was a contractual thing where Santana couldn't put his name down -- Santana showed up on Papa John Creach's album in the same year)

I gotta say - I don't know what prompted this but I found myself thinking about "Pretty As You Feel" and how the guitar solo goes. At the time I remember that it didn't sound at all like Jorma, who is tremendous. I thought - sounds like Santana!!! Now here's some apparently corroborative evidence, that he and Mike Shrieve were in the studio at the time.
Any other thoughts out there?

I've thought that too - that the guitar style sounded like Santana. Otherwise, I know nothing more about it.

I hear the album version is edited down from a 20 minute jam. I wonder if the uncut original jam is around somewhere.

Hi ho!

And don't take this too serious.
As far as I know, "as pretty as you feel"
is an idea from Frank Zappa: "as shitty as you feel"
