A different "Lather" question

Postby thecone on Wed Jan 30, 2008 11:57 pm

I have always wondered about the "story" behind Lather....i have an Autistic son & it sounds like Grace is describing Autistic traits (although Autisn was little known in the 60's). Does anyone have any info on Lather?

Thanks.

Hm...I can see how you would say that. I myself have Asperger's Syndrome, so...

I have to say I've never interpreted the song in that way. It describes childlike activities because it's about the loss of innocence/ loss of childhood/ becoming an adult and leaving the joys of childhood behind. It also, I think, reflects the loss of the hippie dream (plus the obvious drug reference)
Grace wrote it about Dryden, who turned 30.

Autism wasn't well known back then, although I think that The Who's 'Tommy' had elements of it, whether Pete Townsend intended it or not.
