What did it LOOK like?

What was the cover art for this 1970-released non-LP double A-side single?

Does anyone have a link to a photo of the cover art?

Why was Marty Balin not on either track? I think that Marty was still in the band at that point in time... I have some live recordings with him singing ("scat"-type vocals) on the songs...

I know it can be found on the EARLY FLIGHT and 2400 FULTON STREET compilations...

But I am wondering about the original single... When was it released (?-??-70)... And why is Marty absent?

... And WHAT did it look like?

Did it "chart"?

Was it RCA or GRUNT Records?

Does anybody know???

... I especially like the live version of "Have You Seen The Saucers?" from 11-13-70 with Marty adding his trademark "Doot-doo-doo"'s and then they extend into an improv before an early live "Starship" from the BLOWS AGAINST THE EMPIRE suite...

... I do wish the recording was a little better... Too muddy and NO treble-frequencies whatsoever...

Ya gotta take what you can get, I s'pose...

Mexico/HYSTS was released in August 1970.
Of course there is another side to that sleve.
I had the single at the time but I can't remember what it looked like.

I don't recall Marty not singing on those singles but it wouldn't surprise me.

Another questions about Mexico:

Anyone know when it was recorded, and more to the point, whether Spencer was still with the band.

Also, here's a video of Mexico where Covington is playing drums. Does it look like its a video from a live performance, or is it a video from a studio?

I THINK that that clip is from 1970 "Go Ride The Music" which is the companion broadcast of "A Night At The Family Dog" from the same year... I THINK...

Either way, that is some GOOD SHIT and I have never seen it before, so to me it was VERY COOL.

Something about National Educational Television which eventually became PBS with "Sesame Street" and all that hoo-hah...
And how widely-esteemed music critic jazz-aficionado the late great Ralph Gleason somehow convinced everybody at the Public TV station in S.F. CA to ultimately broadcast his great and visionary volumes of psychedelic San Francisco rock sounds recorded on VIDEO for the benefit of all of us FREAKS 30- or 40-years later...

This single never charted.

It was released on RCA. This single came out in 1970. Grunt Records didn't start until 1971.

I think the reason Marty is only on "Have You Seen the Saucers?" is because it was recorded at Wally Heider's earlier. "Mexico" was recorded at Pacific High Recording later. Or maybe he got stuck in traffic. I'm not sure but does Spencer drum on Saucers and Joey drum on Mexico? I remember reading in the Got a Revolution book that Joey only played drums on one side.

An update on the charting: Mexico did reach #102, just shy of getting on to the Billboard Hot 100.
