"Almost Starshipshape" bootleg

Postby caspian on Tue Mar 13, 2007 12:02 am

Awhile back I bought a big box of cassettes at a yard sale. Most were Dead and Phish concerts, but there was one 90 min. JA tape called "Almost Starshipshape: Live 1970." It sounded like it was dubbed off a vinyl double LP, but definitely soundboard quality, not an audience recording. Very tight performance, mostly "Crown" and "Volunteers" material, but also included "Saucers," "Mexico," "Emergency," "Dresses too Short," and a funky Joey Covington song I've never heard elsewhere called "The Man."

So does anyone know anything more about this? Like exact performance date and venue?

A million years ago, in the days of vinyl, this bootleg was known as "Tapes From The Mothership."

And it is infamous for the reported quote of Marty's at the end of the show "I need a new band." I always thought he said "I need a new man." (Meaning president, someone in charge, the "man.") Oh well.

You can. It is a liberated boot and can be traded for or downloaded from a Bit Torrect site.
Plus there are other shows (just as good or better) also available.

The use of bit torrent isn't always
a legal thing, because copyrights !!!!!!

Before you are going to use
bit torrent, please read about it here...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent

1st you need a program (a tracker) to
search on the internet for the files.
Could be anything, mp3 ,videoclips etc.

Links to tracker programs...
http://www.google.nl/search?hl=nl&q=bit ... cker&meta=

2nd you need a program for downloading
the files...it's a bit like the internet explorer
but only for bit torrent files. These bit torrent
files are NOT the desired files, it's just
some kind of help-to-find-the-real-one....

Links to that kind of programs...
http://www.google.nl/search?hl=nl&q=bit ... eken&meta=

Bit Torrent is great, but it could be
slow sometimes...but it's free to use...

But there is another one... UseNet...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usenet

Use Net is faster...but it cost some money !
It's a bit more safe than Bit Torrent,
there is everything you need...
Again 2 steps...a search program...
and a download program...

 ...Life isn't easy...

The top reputable BT sites are extremely responsive to the wishes of artists.
They are also self-policed when it comes to removing any commercially available material.
If one prefers to do private one-on-one trading, so be it.
