HAPPY ALTAMONT DAY, EVERYBODY!

Postby red7 on Sun Dec 05, 2004 2:53 pm

hooray! today is altamont's 35th anniversary!

were YOU there? and if so, why didn't you help out marty?

what's yer favorite part of Gimme Shelter? so many choice lines from that film...

"i wanna see mick jagger, godDAMN IT!"

or: "i'd like to thank the hell's angels for smashing marty balin in the face and knocking him out for a bit..."

or: "i didn't go there to police NOTHIN', man..."

or: "charlie's good tonight, inne?"

or: "it's kinda weird up here..."

or: "oh, maaaaaaan...reealllllllly?"

or: "let's not keep FUCKIN' UP!"

how much better is Gimme Shelter than that dopey, yawn-fest that is the woodstock movie? there no drama to woodstock, just a bunch of soggy hippies bitching about having to stand in line for for the phones.

anyway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALTAMONT!

Ya, good one mate!

Still... Which festival would YOU have rather been at?

I mean Altamont ended with darkness prevailing, "Satan dancing with delight", psychic carnage and murder...

The image of those bloated naked acid casualties offering themselves as human sacrifice and being beaten mercilessly is the stuff of nightmares for me...

And that was before the sun even went down that day...

By contrast, Woodstock ended with the sun rising as the virtuosic luminary JIMI HENDRIX redefined the American national anthem for "a generation lost in space"...

Gimme Woodstock!!! :D

The first one was taken in 1999 and I made a little edition to change "30" by "35"

Some fans were at the Altamont Speedway asking the Rolling Stones to play there (The No Security Tour was already over by then)
