"Hush" by Somebody's Image. People in this country remember Ian Meldrum as an amusingly drug-addled pop presenter; it's hard to believe that he was once a brilliant record producer.

(The Creature meets Gilligan - nice bit of formula low-brow art there, Psychy!)

"Anyone Who Has A Heart"-Dionne Warwick.
For me the best David-Bacharach song ever, in a never to be surpassed performance of that song.
Way back in the sixties is was common that American hit singles were covered by mediocre European artists. The last ones were promoted in Europe, the originals were very hard to find.
"Anyone Who Has A Heart" was a big hit in Europe for the Very Terrible, always loud, always insensitive, Cilla Black. But I had heard the original version on Radio Luxembourg and that was what the one I wanted to buy. I found it in a small record store. I had the record played in the store to be sure it was the right version. Then, a tall black man came in. "I want that record". "Well", said the shop owner, "I have only one and this young man (I was only 13 at the time) wants to buy it".
"Don't you want the hit record by Cilla Black?" asked the black man, "than I'll take this obscure one."
No way, how much they pressured me, I stood my ground, I was first.
I still own that record.
I got compliments for my taste though.

I don't think Cilla was "very terrible". She had a voice like a saxophone being blown hard, and that's fine if you're doing rock or upbeat pop. No good for smooth showbizzy material, but that's where the money was in the early Sixties, and we lost her to Light Entertainment in the end.

Oh, yeah, the question at the top of the page. "In My Own Time" by the Bee Gees.

Anyone who had a heart was also sung by Dusty Springfield, arguably the UK's greatest female singer, it's a real shame she seems to be largely forgotten now, not by me though.

Dusty? I agree, for me the best UK female singer next to Sandy Denny.
Adele, still so young now, might become a contender.
Best UK male singer, without any competition: Steve Mariott.
Listening to: "The Darlings Of The Wapping Wharf Launderette".

Well I wouldn't argue against Steve Marriott, you know Keith Richards wanted him in the Stones, but Mr. Ego (Jagger) wouldn't have it.
Got sailing to Philadelphia (Mark Knopfler) on now, matter of interest I saw the then fledgling Dire Straits supporting Talking Heads in Erics club Liverpool in 77 for 1GB£. That was one damn great night, I never met anyone else who saw these bands together at any other venue.
Saw the Clash a couple of times at Erics aswell, first time all the gear blew up after about a half hour, so they promissed to come back, which they did a couple of months later , of course since then about 10,000 people claimed to be in the crowd, when there actually was about 150 of us. My last gig was John Mayall in Liverpool just before Christmas, he's 78 years old now and still absolute class

A fabulous version of 'Somebody to Love" by JA.
A bootleg recording made just before they hit the jackpot. I was intrigued when I found it. Over 8 minutes long. 8 minutes?
Yes it is. Song number 9 of an overall very good performance, with for a bootleg decent sound, it shows Marty still firmly at the controls and doing most of the vocals. Grace sings "Somebody to Love" true to the original recording and then the band starts to improvise with Marty doing the vocals. Great!

The Beatles - Abbey Road (just to balance my Small Faces/Steve Mariott infatuation I have at the moment).

For the first time in, well maybe 20 years! And it was better than I thought/remembered.
