MOJO Psychedelic Special

I bought the psychedelic MOJO. Got to say i found it a bit disappointing. What annoyed me most was they had the top 40 trippy albums but Number 9 is missing and there are two number sixes. Honest mistake i guess. and it's all focused around rock/pop and all the mainstream stuff. There's a disappointing section on obscure psych but that's only about a page. The bit on poster art's crap. There's only a tiny little bit on Miles Davis. About two sentences i think.

Why the Doors and Jefferson Airplane only feature once each is beyond my comprehension (though both choices are my favourite albums by those bands). Plus Forever Changes, i think, is probably Love's least psychedelic album though obviously their most successful. i hate blue cheer and Kaleidoscope irritate me. They're my only complaints! Did find some useful information: Never knew the temptations did a psych album, may have to check that one out and i've never heard any van dyke parks though i dig his work with Brian Wilson/Beach Boys so he's another i'll check out.

Yeah, it came the other day. Thanks for the recommendation. I love it! He's got a unique musical taste and plays guitar like he was born with one in his hands. Unfortunately he's one of those artists that I've never managed to see in concert. This year he's playing one gig in NJ, but I'll be in Ohio that weekend at Jorma's guitar camp! He is playing the Hudson River festival in June, which I might be able to make. It only took me 33 years to finally make it to a Hot Tuna concert, maybe I'll get lucky this time!

The thing with those top 40 lists is that everybody has its own ideas about them. Not the list i would have made, but agree on a lot of those albums.
Can't wait to read it myselve, i've ordered the magazine through the internet but it hasn't arived yet.

Glad you like the album Dave! Richard Thompson is a favourite of mine. Very very good guitarist. And danny thompson IS a great bassist, never seen him live though.
If anyone loves Danny Thompson's bass playing and for some reason has ignored my pleas to listen to John Martyn's Solid Air then go forth and buy it! Danny Thompson is on top form on that album. Don't compromise with other Martyn albums many of them aren't very good at all and none come near to this classic; also many of them don't feature thompson on bass due to a falling out. Apparently something to do with thompson joining an unusual muslim sect but i'd say that that's probably a rumour; why would two friends fall out over that kind of thing?
And John Martyn's too incoherent a speaker to put across such complex vehement views in a way that's understandable; this is not an attack on Mr. Martyn, but i'm sure he'd agree that drink and drugs have kind of impaired his ability to talk properly; still he's bloody funny and smart and i urge all of you to see him live if you can; he has "stage presence".
