Climbed to the top of Primrose Hill in North London the other day - and realized as I looked out across the magnificent view of London below, that it was the first time I'd stood there for more than 40 years when, as a young music-mad reporter on a local newspaper, I covered a free open-air Jefferson Airport concert.
Memories came flooding back. I recall it was a rainy day for the gig, but that didn't dampen the enthusiasm of the crowd (fairly small as the event had had only limited publicity).
I was trying to remember what songs the band did, but could only recall a few. I do know they did Ballad Of You Me & Pooneil, Somebody To Love, and my favourite, White Rabbit.
The lovely Grace thought we were all mad, facing up the wet weather to see them, but of course it was all worth it.
It's a shame the concert never ended up being recorded.
Has anyone else fond memories of an open Jefferson concert?
I might add, JA had wowed everyone at the Isle of Wight music festival the same year, 1968, and sealed their popularity among a growing number of fans in England.
