I can't stand "Amazing Grace" on bagpipes. It's the wrong instrument for the song. When people say they hate the sound of bagpipes, this is the kind of music I blame. (Moan, groan.)

That's the problem in a nutshell; "Amazing Grace" is supposed to be inspiring rather than sad. Making it sound mournful is a miscalculation akin to the Kingston Trio's hearty rendition of "Tom Dooley".
