Official Jefferson Airplane Lyrics?

Postby Phantastic Lover on Wed May 07, 2008 9:40 pm

Hello everyone, I'm a relatively new Jefferson Airplane fan, and I must say that it's a shame that the lyrics aren't included in the CD liner notes...

I find the vocals a bit indecipherable at times, and there are different interpretations of certain words in songs at various lyric sites.

I'd like to know exactly what the writer is trying to convey.

One song on my mind at the moment is 'Mr. Fredrick'... the following segment in particular.

"On wire wheels the four stroke man
Opens wide
the marching sound
the constant ride
on the gasket is mine
all mine
one more pair of
Wire wheels bear down on you
Gear stripping the willow
How many machine men will you see before you
Stop believing that speed
Will slide down on you
Like brakes in bad weather"

The bolded parts seem incorrect... it sounds like Grace is saying "wild wheels" and "and the casket" as opposed to "wire wheels" and "on the gasket".

Does anyone know for sure?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

The album came with a lyric sheet.

The CD did not?

Don't remember.

I have experience with VOLUNTEERS.
The FIRST one was a second-hand copy of the original LP, a bit scratchy yet mostly intact. Lyric-sheet-libretto/poster included, courtesy of "fred"...
BEST VERSION of all, in my opinion.
Since the late 1980's I have purchased several different VOLUNTEERS CD's... The most recent one came with SURREALISTIC PILLOW (?) liner notes by Jeff Tamarkin...

Depending on WHICH version (which nation purchased in, which version, which year etc.), the VOLUNTEERS compact disc MAY or MAY NOT include a 2-page reproduction of the original LP insert that was included with the first pressings of VOLUNTEERS.
The CD may or may not include the famous peanut-butter & jelly sandwich, famously photographed by Herb Green and eaten by Gut...

However, the lyrics sheet / poster is irrelevant anyway, because on the CD re-issue it is SO SMALL as to be TOTALLY unreadable.

Like... What was the point if you cannot read the "lyrics" on the "lyric sheet"???

I think that RCA / BMG needs to get their shit together... And release these musical masterpieces in the properly re-mastered, currently-annotated, and historical-period-original packaging.

P.S.: WHY does not the recent SUNFIGHTER CD re-issue contain a reproduction of the original LP libretto/artwork booklet?

Yeah... Sounds like RCA / BMG needs to get their shit together.

And they wonder why people "illegally" download for free!?!?!?!

...When many people (read:loyal fans) would happily $$$*purchase*$$$ if only they could get the REAL artwork with the music!!!
