I bought a laptop recently, in addition to my desktop, which has Windows XP. I agree, it doesn't seem very secure, and even downloading the "recommended" or "required" updates causes changes I have to undo. It was a mess! So now I rely on my own antivirus, firewall, antispy, etc. With the programs I have now, it seems OK.
