Does anyone have that picture of Grace that appeared in "Juxtapoz" about ten years ago? Long white hair, pinkish flashbulb eyes, and a painting of Jimi Hendrix, if I remember correctly. That's one of my faves.

Hey Chas! Have you seen "Gracie Slick's Handbook of Radical Do's and Don'ts" from the March 1971 National Lampoon? More to the point, do you WANT to see it?! I've also got a full-page advert for Long John Silver from another issue. Say the word.

The "cover" of "Gracie Slick's Handbook of Radical Do's and Don'ts". This mildly gigglesome article, written by Terry Catchpole, purported to be a handbook of hippy etiquette.

It's cruel, but she'll never see it! Actually, I'm sure she has, because Grunt Records started advertising in the Lampoon shortly after the "Handbook" appeared.

That's great Susan.....I think that handbook might have been included in a record released by Grunt Recs some time ago....but I'm not sure!

The scan's from the actual magazine, so I could get you the text as well. I'm just not sure of the best way to do it.

Just remebered another JA-related cartoon I saw in the Seventies. Do you know that Norman Rockwell painting of the old cowboy listening to a wind-up gramophone that appeared on the cover of the first Pure Prairie League album? Someone did a parody of it showing a tearful 70-something hippy listening to an ancient copy of "Volunteers" in his attic. I'd like to see THAT again! On your marks, CD... GO!!!

That's the Rockwell painting I meant, "Dreams of Long Ago". I wonder where I saw the parody, some music magazine perhaps?

I'll try to post the text of "Handbook" as you suggest. My scanner's a Canon FB630P, by the way, and I use Photoshop for trimming and adjusting scans.

That does look good CD. Computers are useful tools. But in my mind art is about showing other people how you see the world. There aren't any cameras that can photograph dreams. Also art is a form of magic. Robert Crumb said something to the effect of "I get what I want by drawing the object of my desire." (Imagine a depraved slobbering Crumb face here!) The magic is more subtle that that, but that's the gist...
