Aug. 23, 2005:
Paul Kantner's
"Blows Against the Empire,"
which includes guest musicians such as Grace Slick,
Jerry Garcia, Jack Casady, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann,
Graham Nash, and more, will be released by Sony/BMG
Music and will be in stores September 13, 2005.
July 15th,
2005: "Chetfest"
- a benefit concert in memory of Chet Helms will
be held at the Great American Music Hall in San
Francisco, Friday, July 29th 2005.
Artists scheduled to appear include: Big Brother
& the Holding Company, Bob Weir, Mickey Hart,
T-Bone Burnett, Flying Other Brothers, Country
Joe McDonald, David Nelson, Terry Haggerty, Leigh
Stephens, Bobby Vega, Joli Valenti & Friends,
MC Wavy Gravy and supporting the effort - Merl
Saunders.
Price includes a collectors Poster Pak including
limited edition posters by Stanley Mouse, Jim
Phillips, Wes Wilson, Chuck Sperry, Lee Conklin,
Chris Shaw, David Singer, Arlene Owseichik, Rapahel
(WasBob) Schnepf, Alton Kelley

Spencer Dryden, drummer for Jefferson
Airplane, died at his home on January 10 due to
complications from colon cancer. His last public
appearance was the DVD release party on September
29 at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco.
Spencer joined Jefferson Airplane in 1966 and
played on some of the Airplane's most memorable
albums, including Surrealistic Pillow which sold
over a million copies & featured great songs
like "Somebody To Love," White Rabbit,"
& "Embryonic Journey." He performed
with the Airplane at the Monterey Pop Festival,
Woodstock, Altamont, the Fillmore Auditorium,
and the Fillmore West.
One little known fact was that he was also the
nephew of Charlie Chaplin. He is survived by his
three sons Jackson, Jes, and Jeffrey, and 5 grandchildren
Aaron, Lauren, Christen, Meagan, and Jessica.
